I have mentioned before that I’m a swing dancer. More accurately, I’m a lindy hopper (as in, one who dances the lindy hop). If you read my explanation of how this blog came to be you might remember I was dancing at an event in Orlando when I had the conversation that gave me the name for this website.
There are periodic weekend events that literally take up 2-4 days of my life, especially when I’ve helped organize them. Last weekend was DCLX 2013, DC’s very own lindy exchange and something I helped run. It came on the heels of my sinus infection, which is why I haven’t blogged much. But life will soon return to normal, if there is such a thing.
I discovered lindy hop in 2006, but it wasn’t until 2007 that I started dancing often and committed the time and energy to learning how to dance. A couple years later I was dancing constantly, but I’ve since dramatically scaled back the amount of time I invest in dancing. But there are still a few weekends a year (like last weekend) that dancing becomes just about the only thing that I do (other than grab 3 or 4 hours of sleep per day if I’m lucky).
We had some tremendous musicians playing for us this weekend and some wonderful dancers from all over the place. If you’d like to see a little of what I’m talking about check out these videos:
